The façade design consists of curtain wall glass and metal cladding, granting uninterrupted views from within while producing a striking random patterned effect externally. The night lighting, which provides strong articulation of the tower shafts, also enhances the crown of each shaft with an array of point source lights.
ALT considers the “ice block” façade as one of AST’s main features, where an overhanging façade wraps around the podium. Laminated glass composed of varying grades of frit with articulated fixings make up the podium wall, and is supported by a triangular steel profile clad with stainless steel.
One of the challenging facade design elements in the podium City Room was the “Wavy Wall”. Its complex geometry asked for the use of triangle shaped glass panels with articulated fixings. This allowed ALT to provide the optimal design solution—an adjustable framing that accommodates the differences in the slope and angles of the faceted wall.
Asia Square has been designed to world’s best practices, and best in class in environmental leadership, being the first commercial development in Singapore to be awarded LEED®-CS Platinum pre-certification by the US Green Building Council and also achieved the Green Mark Platinum rating from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority. Green features include Singapore’s largest photovoltaic cell system installed on the roof of both towers, and the country’s first downtown biodiesel generation plant for recycling waste cooking oil into biodiesel.
