CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION PHASE

Phase 1: PERFORMANCE MOCK-UP REVIEW & TEST

Drawing Review
Provide reviews of the contractor’s performance shop drawings of the curtain wall. Included in the review will be:

1. Technical assessment of the curtain wall.
2. Functional assessment of the curtain wall.
3. Recommendation of changes to improve the wall system.

Structural Calculations
Provide reviews of the subcontractors' structural calculations.

Testing Procedure
Review the contractors' proposed testing program to ensure that it is adequate to properly test the technical and functional performance of the wall.

Mockup Erection

Observe the erection of the Mockup at the testing facility to ensure the installation is per the approved drawings. Any deviations from mockup drawings or method statements observed during the erection of the mockup, along with general observations, will be included in a written report.

Test Witnessing
Observe the test and submit a written report on the results.

Deviations from the approved procedure, failures, and general observations will be included in the report. ALT will review and comment on the laboratory report and testing results.

Phase 2: SHOP DRAWING REVIEW

Shop Drawings and Structural Calculations Review
There are usually two reviews conducted. The first is made on the initial submittals; the additional review is made on the corrected, revised submittals. The reviews are made to ensure compliance of the submittals to the tender documents.

Sample Materials and Product Data Submittals Review
In collaboration with the Architect, ALT usually inspects and reviews the samples of materials and product data submitted by the Contractor and advise the Owner of its acceptability.

Phase 3: INSPECTION OF SHOP ASSEMBLY & FIELD ERECTION

Factory Inspection
Factory inspection is important to ensure that the approved design is being manufactured and assembled properly. Often, simple error in procedure on the factory floor, such as not cleaning areas to be sealed properly can mean the difference between a quality wall and a leaky wall.

On-Site Inspection
ALT conducts observations of both the assembly and erection of the curtain wall materials. We go to the job site on a periodic basis to ensure that the finished product conforms to the project specifications and approved shop drawings.

On-Site Testing
All cladding installations should be periodically field water tested. Field water testing is very important to verify that the wall is installed properly. The water tightness of the system design is verified at the mock-up. The water tightness of the implementation can only be verified at the job.

ALT conducts and monitors other types of on-site testing such as verifying concrete anchor bolts or load testing suspect anchors.
